- Have high blood pressure
- Drinking too much of alcohol
- Aged in the range 30 to 60
- Medication such as diuretics which increase the urine flow in the body
- Eating a diet which contains high levels of purines, examples sea food and red meat
- Taking cancer medications

- Swelling and warmth around the joint
